Keys to Packing for a Weekend
Check the weather
When packing, always check what the weather will be like at your final destination. If the weather is going to be colder, your luggage is probably going to be a little heavier, which is something to keep in mind when you're trying to pack light. When you check the weather, you'll be able to plan accordingly and not be caught without the right stuff or with too many things because you packed for all weather possibilities.
Keep your bag small
For shorter trips, you can bring smaller pieces of luggage. A small carry on suitcase and an extra small bag, such as a purse, are the perfect sized pieces of luggage when packing for a weekend. If you bring a small duffel bag or suitcase, you will be less tempted to pack unnecessary items and won't end up with more than you need.
Keep your clothing simple
If you pack enough outfits for your trip plus more so that you have options then you are going to be greatly increasing the amount of clothing you are bringing. Make sure that most of your clothing pieces can match one another, and that you can wear some pieces, such as pants, twice. This way, you can maximize your outfit choices, and feel like you're wearing a different outfit, even when you are just mixing and matching your different pieces. Doing this will definitely minimize the amount you need to pack!
Even if you are tempted to bring more, only bring two pairs of shoes
Particularly for a weekend trip, try to only pack two pairs of shoes. Especially when you are traveling in St. George, you want to make sure that you can have a pair of shoes that are comfortable enough to be in all day, and that you don't mind getting a little dirty and doing physical activity in. Also, pack a pair of less athletic shoes that are still comfortable, such as flats or casual (non-athletic) sneakers, that you can wear when lounging and doing less physical activities. The only reason you should bring more than two pairs of shoes is if you plan on going to the beach, or going swimming and you want to bring a pair of flip-flops (which don't take up a lot of space).
Forget (most of) your toiletries!
Of course, you should always remember some of the basics like deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste, but many hotels offer travel size portions of shampoo, conditioner, and soap right in the room. Then you don't have to worry about the correct sizes of liquids you must bring if you are traveling by plane; they could explode all over the rest of your luggage. Remember, you can always buy toiletries wherever you go!
If at all possible, try to keep laptops and larger electronics at home, as they take up space and weigh down your luggage. Just bring the basics like cell phones and chargers, because do you really need to be on your laptop when you are in a beautiful place like St. George?
