Top 4 Road Trip Tips
There are a lot of road trip tips out there, some of which are more useful than others. Here are some of our favorites that we recommend trying out on your next trip:
Get off the beaten path
If you stick to main freeways as you travel, you’ll find mostly outlet malls and chain restaurants, and really, you can experience those just about anywhere. But if you stick to the smaller highways, you’ll be connected with real, interesting American culture that provides for a more unique traveling experience filled with home cooking and local stories you couldn’t get anywhere else.
Keep it clean
Don’t underestimate the power of a clean car on a long road trip. When things get cluttered, moods can start to deteriorate very quickly and turn a fun trip into a complete drag. To avoid this, think ahead. Invest in some silicone baking cups that you can use to line your cup holders. This will make it easier to empty out trash and crumbs that get lost in there. You can also keep your car smelling nice and fresh with a simple homemade air freshener. All you need is a clothespin infused with a few drops of your favorite fragrance which you then clip to an air vent.
When planning the perfect road trip, you don’t often envision medical emergencies along the way, but they can and do happen. Think ahead and be prepared with a specially made kit just for when you’re on the road. Safety kits made just for road travel include not just basic tools for injuries but devices for cutting seatbelts or smashing windows in extreme situations.
Believe it or not, there’s a smarter way to pack your trunk than throwing everything in at random. First of all, you should make sure that everything is an a suitcase, bag or other container. Having loose items all over the place will make it more difficult to unload if you need to get to your spare tire. Second, make sure to store heavy items like coolers at the bottom of the pile and essential items such as emergency kits at the top where they can easily be reached when needed.
